Abstract

School A has a mission of developing a community of learners that embraces the hearts, minds and enriches the lives of all students through a comprehensive curriculum. It is seen that in the report cards of students that most are developing and achieving well in all subject areas. However, in the subject of mathematics, there is a difference in scores compared to other subjects. This is common amongst 5th graders as they encounter challenges with academic achievement due to the preparation of the national examinations in grade 6, hence the difficulty of academics in the 5th grade. Throughout this process, there are students who are able to face challenges well, and there are those who face difficulty. The ability of students to face challenges is possibly related to grit. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference of Grit in mathematics based on the approaches to learning model of 5th grade students. The number of research samples are 76 students consisting of 30 boys and 46 girls. The measurement used in this is paired sampling t-test through the use of secondary data through the approaches to learning model in grade 5 students. Based on the results of the research there is an increase of scores from insufficient, sufficient, and satisfactory to adequate, good, and excellent. The results of the study indicate that there is a significance of 0.000 (p< 0.05) in the difference of grit scores in the subject of mathematics of 5th grade students through the approaches to learning model.
